It was 3 days of knowledge sharing and networking at the Africa Valuation Conference 2024 held from 16th to 18th April in Johannesburg, South Africa. In it’s second edition, the annual event also known as the most comprehensive mega-gathering of property professionals on the African continent featured 2 separate sessions, with the first being held at the Sky Hotel Sandton on the 16th and 17th April and the second hosted at the Mall of Africa in Midrand on the 18th April.

Janet Channing, Managing Director of Metgovis Integrated Property Solutions and Project manager of BPG Mass Appraisals was part of the panelists.

Day 1
Day 1
of the Africa Valuation Conference 2024 was a resounding success with speakers and panelists providing great insight at the event taking place at the Hotel Sky Sandton. Speakers and panelists included Brian Mncube (MRICS), John Cloete, Eileen Andrew, Kura Chihota, Erwin Rode, Marno Booyens, Charles Golding, Maje Clifford Maje, Dianne de Wet, Laetitia Van der Merwe, Sean Godoy, Sethebe Manake and Janet Channing. The panel discussions included ‘Modern challenges facing the valuation profession – The status of the valuation profession globally’; ‘Real Estate: An overview of the real Estate investments trends and the emergence of (or a need for) new valuation methods’; and ‘Property valuation technologies: financialization of the valuation profession and impact of intelligence platforms’.

Day 2
It was yet another day of insightful discussions on day 2 of the Africa Valuation Conference 2024 as speakers, panelists and delegates interacted with the aim of elevating the valuation profession to experience a bold new future. Taking place at the Hotel Sky in Sandton, day two’s speakers and panelists included Portia Tau-Sekati, Roshinee Naidoo, Dr Audrey Kwangamato, Motlatšo Mmadjadji Maloka, Dr Dr. Steven Ngubeni, PhD, Llewellyn Louw, Patrick Alesandrini, CAE, RES, MAI, SRA, CFE, Priscilla Nthai, Sethebe Manake, Riz Omar and Alexander Aronsohn FRICS. It was a truly unforgettable experience for the delegates and everyone involved, with the 2025 edition expected to be bigger and better. The Africa Valuation Conference is organized by the Academy of Construction and Real Estate (ACRE) and coordinated by an advisory board comprising regulatory bodies and industry organizations. The official programme of the conference was brought to an end with the Office of the Valuer-General Gala Dinner hosted at the Radisson Blu Sandton, with the keynote address provided by the OVG’s Acting COO Thapelo Motsoenenng MCIPS, MBA.

Day 3
The final day
of the Africa Valuation Conference 2024 featured a walkabout at the Mall of Africa in Midrand where delegates were taken through the aspects of the shopping centre. Johann Fourie, general manager of the Mall of Africa provided insight on the overall operations of the magnificent building and provided information on the size, tenants and vacancy rate amongst other discussions. This was followed by a masterclass presented by Adelene van der Westhuizen, managing director of Atterbury Management Services, which provided more insight on asset management and the Atterbury Property portfolio. We wrapped up the conference with a masterclass on ‘International Practices and Standardisation: Valuation of Plant, Machinery and Equipment’ presented by Valcon Partners’ Douglas Krieser. FASA FRICS. A big thank you goes to all of our stakeholders who contributed towards the success of the conference and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2025.
